Dive into the Rainbow Games 2024 Aquatic Programme!

Press Release
Dive into the Rainbow Games 2024 Aquatic Programme!

Brace yourselves for a wave of excitement as diving is added to the aquatic programme of the highly anticipated Rainbow Games Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland 2024! Prepare to be captivated by the awe-inspiring displays of Hauora and grace as divers from across the region can compete in the inaugural edition of the Games.

In an exciting collaboration, the Rainbow Games 2024 has partnered with Auckland Diving, the locally renowned diving organisation known for their expertise and commitment to the sport. Their involvement will elevate the diving competitions to new heights, ensuring an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike.

The diving competition at the Rainbow Games 2024 promises to be a highlight, featuring three spectacular events: mixed boards (a total of six dives), a 3-meter synchro competition (a total of four dives) and the manu competition.

The manu dive, a popular technique enjoyed by thousands across the continent, will add an extra big splash of excitement and cultural richness to the programme. This innovative addition will host one Open (all ages, genders and identity expressions) grade in a larger-than-life competition. For those that don’t know already, a manu is like a standard ‘divebomb’. But instead of curling up and entering the water feet first, a manu is essentially a V-shape, meaning the tailbone or lower back enters the water first, with an aim of generating a stylish, large and loud splash!

Aligned with the commitment to inclusion and the overarching Kaupapa of the Rainbow Games 2024, the diving competition removes any binary divisions of traditional sport offering one Open Grade across the following three divisions:

Open Diving (18-24): Calling all dynamic young divers aged 18 to 24! If you've previously competed in Open, Junior Elite, Age Group, or Masters events, this is your chance to showcase your skills on the biggest stage.

Open Rookie Masters Diving (18+): Are you an aspiring diving champion aged 18 or above? This division is tailor-made for you! If you haven't previously competed in Open, Junior Elite, Age Group, or Masters events, seize this opportunity to make your mark.

Open Masters Diving (25+): Experience meets excellence in this division, open to divers aged 25 and above who have honed their craft in Open, Junior Elite, Age Group, or Masters events. Let your expertise shine as you inspire the next generation of divers.

Mark your calendars for Saturday 6 April 2024, as the diving competitions will be held alongside swimming, creating an unforgettable two-day diving extravaganza, among the wider Rainbow Games 2024 programme (from 4-8 April 2024). Immerse yourself in the electric atmosphere as the pool becomes a stage for daredevil dives and magnificent manoeuvres.
